EVANSVILLE— Keith Miller, Ivy Tech Community College Southwest alumnus, was honored by the State Board of Trustees Aug. 3 for being named the 2016 recipient of the Alumni Achievement Award.
Each year, Ivy Tech recognizes an Outstanding Alumnus from each region who has demonstrated notable success in his/her personal or professional life. Miller was recognized at Commencement and last night at a statewide awards dinner where the recipients of each region have the opportunity to receive additional distinction in the form of two statewide awards: Outstanding Professional Achievement and Outstanding Personal Achievement. Nominees must be graduates of Ivy Tech Community College and can be nominated by anyone (staff, faculty, fellow alumni, friends, or family).
Miller, a Montgomery, Indiana native, first attended Ivy Tech State College in 1999, earning his Certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Miller went on to complete an advanced degree for EMT Training followed by earning his Associate Degree in Paramedic Science in 2004. In 2004, Miller was employed as Paramedic for Posey County E.M.S in Mt. Vernon, Ind. It was during this time that Miller wanted to share his knowledge and experiences with others and did so by becoming an Adjunct Faculty member at Ivy Tech. He taught EMT Intermediate and Paramedic curriculums from 2005-2010.
Miller thrived in this fast paced, critical care environment and in 2006 he took a position as the Lead Flight Paramedic for St. Mary’s Life Flight at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana. As a Life Flight Paramedic, Miller proved he had an expanded skillset and could work under additional circumstances, sometimes in extreme situations.
Miller transitioned to Strategic Development at St. Mary’s Medical Center in 2013, and was
recently promoted to the Director of Strategic Development. “Keith quickly earned the respect of his peers, regional physicians and administrators by investing the time to understand their needs and working with them to find mutually beneficial solutions…his knack for leadership was showcased as he rebuilt his team following a quick transition”, stated John S. Greaney, V.P. of Strategic Services. Miller went on to earn his Bachelor of Health Services degree with Magna Cum Laude recognition from the University of Southern Indiana in 2015.
